The Person Behind the Practice
Meet Jonathan Kellogg, founder of Arora Architecture. With more than twenty years of experience designing residential and commercial projects throughout Maryland, Washington DC, and Virginia, Jonathan founded Arora Architecture to create a practice centered on thoughtful collaboration, creative exploration, and responsive design. Guided by the belief that every project begins with possibility, he partners with clients to uncover opportunities, solve complex challenges, and create spaces that are both purposeful and deeply personal:
For as long as I can remember, I've been drawn to the creative process. Not simply making something new, but discovering possibilities hidden within what already exists. Whether designing a building or creating art, I'm inspired by the way ideas, materials, and experiences layer to create something meaningful.
As both an architect and an artist, I approach every project with curiosity. I enjoy exploring possibilities that may not be immediately apparent, helping clients visualize opportunities they may not have imagined on their own. The creative process is rarely linear. Some ideas emerge intentionally, while others are discovered through exploration, collaboration, and an openness to unexpected outcomes. It is through that balance of creativity and thoughtful refinement that the strongest designs take shape.
My early work as a painter has deeply influenced my approach to architecture. Through layered multimedia compositions, I explore texture, movement, memory, and the relationships between seemingly unrelated elements. That same perspective informs the way I design, recognizing that every space carries a history and every design contributes another layer to its story.
I also believe that architecture carries a responsibility beyond the present. Whenever possible, I look for opportunities to adapt, renew, and thoughtfully transform existing spaces, recognizing the value of what has already been built while creating environments that serve the needs of today and contribute responsibly to tomorrow.
Creativity isn't about having all the answers from the beginning. It's about remaining open to discovery, allowing ideas to evolve through collaboration, thoughtful exploration, and careful refinement. Design then becomes a process of revealing rather than imposing. My goal is simple: help people see their spaces differently, uncover possibilities they may not have imagined, and create places that are meaningful, functional, and uniquely their own.
